Do you know who actually made your booze? The answer might surprise you.

Celebrity endorsement in the alcohol industry has been a staple of advertisers for decades. The origin of this can be traced back to the roots of the industry itself; just like any other business, as long as they have been making a product famous people have been pimping that product for insane amounts of money. The sky is blye, the water is wet, we all know this.

However, a handful of celebrities with an entrepreneurial spirit are taking it to the next level. Not content with just putting their mig in the commercials or on the bottles, celebrites are now specifiying how the liquors their names adorn are made and in some cases are opening their own distilleries to take the middleman totally out of the equation!

Face down in Cabo, kissing the ground, woo!

Now some of the brands I am sure most of you have heard of before and probably tried countless times. As a matter of fact one of my favorite tequilas on the market comes care of the red rocker about 6 inches above these words. For you youngsters out there that have no idea who that is and thus have no taste in music, that my friends is Sammy Hagar. He was the front man for Van Halen for over a decade but for our purposes here today he is also the founder of Cabo Wabo tequila.

Can you think of a better face to put on a product than Clooney's?

I hate to double up on liquors but the next one is the liquor that made me think of doing this blog post in the first place. One of the hottest (read: most hyped) new liquors to hit the market in the last few years is Casamigos Tequilas. A blind taste test made me a fan of the blanco tequila (it is also offered in Reposado and Anejo) but I still couldn't see what all the hype was about. That is until I read the label. Tucked down at the bottom left of the label is People Magazine's multiple winner of the Sexiest Man Alive: George Clooney. Now I understand the hype. One of the most influential names in Hollywood, Clooney paired with some dude named Rande Gerber. Some dude who just happens to be married to Cindy Crawford. Now with two of the most recognizable names in the world behind their brand they started cranking out Mexico's finest and sales skyrocketed. Of course when you have a video of all of them waking up in the same bed, that doesn't hurt either.

Whiskey river take my mind, you're all I've got, take care of me

Baseball. Apple Pie. Willie Freaking Nelson. There is nothing more American that the Red Headed Stranger except maybe the most popular liquor made here in the land of the free and home of the brave...bourbon whiskey. Due to this, Whiskey River Bourbon is a match made in heaven. Unlike the prior two, 'ol dope smokin Willie doesn't own the brand but has his signature all over it. The brand began courtesy of one of Willie's biggest country hits,  "Whiskey River" which is also one of the best drinking songs ever made. With input from Willie, Craig Beam at the Heaven Hill Distillery created a small batch bourbon that is aged for 6 years in brand new, fire charred, white oak barrels. What exits the barrels is a blissful bourbon as mellow as Willie after a few doobs. You MUST check this one out if you have the chance.

Manson and Johnny Depp spent Y2K holed up in France with 3 cases of absinthe

My last offering for you today is one of the strangest spirits to ever be created brought to you by one of the strangest musicians to ever walk the Earth. Mansinthe is a collaboration brought to you by Marilyn Manson and Absinthe.de.  Manson has long been one of the most notorious connoisseurs of the legendary spirit. As a matter of fact Mr. Marilyn is on record as saying that the two main influences on his 4th album "Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)" were Soma and Absinthe, and not nessecarily in that order. Any spirit that can inspire someone as out there as Marilyn Manson is sure to show you a thing or two about life!

Hope you all enjoy your new found booze knowledge. Now get out there, have a few drams, and remember...you can't be drunk all day if you don't start in the morning.

Cheers!
